Broadus Health Ministry
Ministry Lead: Jenny Knight, RN
|
Mission Statement:
The Health Ministry team sees the Church as an extension of the family unit. We will
strive to keep our families healthy. We want to use the gifts the Lord has given us to
reach out and provide education and support in maintaining a healthy Congregation and
Community.
Credentials:
The Health Ministry of Broadus Baptist Church will be composed of registered nurses,
members of the congregation who are trained in the medical field and in education.
Scope of Service:
Communications:
The Health Ministry will provide information in the Church's monthly Newsletter.
Announcements will be posted in the Church’s weekly bulletin.
Education: The ministry will provide education on topics such as cardiopulmonary
resuscitation, first aid, safety in the home/workplace, mental health concerns
(e.g. depression, stress reduction), disease specific training (e.g. high blood pressure,
diabetes).
On Call Advice: The nurses in the ministry will be accessible to the church family
for routine non-emergency medical questions. For severe symptoms (i.e. shortness of
breath, chest pain, sudden onset of dizziness/visual disturbances/inability to speak or
move, extreme high/low blood sugars), the church family is instructed to instead call
911 and go immediately to the emergency department.
Referrals: The Health Ministry can provide the church family with a list of available
healthcare resources, as needed. The healthcare resource list will include specialists,
primary care providers, other community health services, and associated phone
numbers. The actual referrals must be initiated by the primary health care physician.
Basic Screening: The Health Ministry will periodically provide
screenings/recommendations (e.g. blood pressure checks, glucose blood sugar finger
sticks, immunization, vision/hearing screenings for children, etc.). Annual
mammograms will be scheduled with the CMC Mammogram Mobile Unit. All
screening and breast health education will be provided by the Mammogram Mobile
Unit staff. When the mobile unit is scheduled for their annual onsite visit, the date
will be announced. A referral list will be provided upon request, see Referrals for
more details.
Visitation: The Ministry will visit shut-ins on an as needed basis to assess needs
(e.g. referrals, screenings, wound checks, and informal post-surgical follow up).

For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD;… Jeremiah 30:17
