Mission: To encourage any who have been baptized by God’s Spirit in their heart (born-again) to follow Him into water baptism! This shows the world that they have now put their faith in Jesus Christ and are taking an open stand for Him. Why water baptism: (a) Jesus was baptized. Matthew 3:16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: (b) Jesus sent his disciples to baptize. Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved... (c) A person is baptized on the basis of his or her profession of faith in Jesus Christ and are baptized in water to symbolize their death to sin and resurrection as a new creature in Christ Jesus, having already been born again, they are just demonstrating symbolically what has already occurred in their hearts. Baptism is just an outward sign of what has already occurred in their heart by God’s Spirit! You go under the water (submersion) to signify death to the old you and are brought up out of the water to signify there’s a new you that’s alive now in Jesus. Romans 6:1-7 "1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? 3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7 For he that is dead is freed from sin". Baptisms at Broadus Baptist Church: We believe in full submersion baptisms, where the born-again Christian is fully immersed in a pool of water. Pictures are taken of the baptism and all baptisms are performed by Pastor Rodney Quesenberry. Family members are encouraged to attend this solemn occasion. Location/Dates: Baptisms are generally held once a quarter, dates will be announced. They are held in the sanctuary behind the choir in a pool of temped water. Requirements: To profess that one has been born-again (heart baptism - reality) and is ready to follow Jesus by being baptized (water baptism - symbolic). |
